The Coordinadora Estatal de Comercio Justoof which we are a member organisation, has already published its report on the Fair Trade in Spain in 2021.
This report covers various topics ranging from the marketing of Fairtrade products to broader issues such as social mobilisation and advocacy.
2021 shows that the trends of recent reports have been consolidated, although there has been a slowdown in growth as a result of the pandemic crisis. Nonetheless, The loyalty to these products is evidenced by the fact that sales remain strong..
In terms of consumption by product, cocoa and sweets are the most important products and are in first place, followed by the Fair Trade classic, coffee.
It is also worth mentioning that, after the decline in sales suffered during 2020, traditional Fairtrade importers have recovered in 2021 and have achieved a turnover of just over 18 million euros.
A second part of the report deals with issues that go beyond the marketing of products and which are also of great importance in achieving the objectives that are part of the Fair Trade movement. We are talking about social mobilisation, awareness-raising, denunciation and advocacy, etc.
As principle 9 of the International Fair Trade Charter states, "organisations work to raise awareness of Fair Trade objectives and the need for greater global justice". Therefore, the report highlights some activities and initiatives along these lines that have been carried out during the year 2021.
He mentions, in fact, the project we carried out at AlterNativa3, in collaboration with Terrassa City Council, together with twelve commercial establishments. These provided twelve recipes made with Fair Trade products that appeared in our 2022 calendar, which we distributed to the collaborating organisations so that they could distribute it among their customers.
