The campaign 'Put the purple filter on! For Equality, Choose Fair Trade' campaign, promoted by 'La Coordi' Fair Trade and Ethical Finance, promotes trading practices that ensure gender equality and women's empowerment.
Although at While progress has been made in the struggle for gender equality in recent decades, women continue to suffer the consequences of the patriarchal system and neoliberal capitalism. The solution by equitable social justice are the economic alternatives, such as Fair Trade, Ethical Finance and the Social and Solidarity Economy.
Poverty has a woman's face
- Women are primarily responsible for unpaid reproductive work.oThey continue to be under-represented in the labour market.
- The global gender pay gap is 23% and 330 million women and girls live in extreme poverty.
- Systematic violations of women workers' rights occur in different sectors, y sometimes in hazardous working environments.
International trade and gender inequality
International trade encourages and consolidates these inequalities towards women, which are reinforced by everyday global consumption. On the other hand, drinking a coffee or eating chocolate produced under fair trade criteriafor example, means to commit to equitable and socially sustainable economic models.
For this reason, the 'Put the lilac filter on!' campaign incorporates a feminist perspective and promotes the participation, empowerment and protagonism of all women through the promotion of fair trade and ethical finance.
Fair Trade and gender equality
Fair Trade leads to equal pay and access to land ownership for women. It also provides access to education and political and social empowerment, as they participate in decision-making in cooperatives.
The Campaign Manifesto "Put the purple filter on! For Equality, Choose Fair Trade" defends these trading practices that guarantee gender equality and women's empowerment. How? By inviting all people and organisations to join and to organise events in their municipality that disseminate and raise awareness of gender-equal business practices.
